The Purple Pinup Guru Platform

When purple things are pulsating on your mind, I'm the one whose clock you want to clean. Aiding is Sparky, the Astral Plane Zen Pup Dog from his mountain stronghold on the Northernmost Island of the Happy Ninja Island chain, this blog will also act as a journal to my wacky antics at an entertainment company and the progress of my self published comic book, The Deposit Man which only appears when I damn well feel like it. Real Soon Now.

PHLEGM BOMBS OVER PANORAMA CITY

'Coughing up furballs' was one way that a co-worker described my cough attacks which always lead me hacking into the wastepaper basket at the side of my desk. I can feel that this flu/cold is finally metabolising out of my system. It's been two weeks and a day and counting since this sickness has taken up residency in my system. But I'm beginning to feel like my oldself again- and I should be up to raping and pillaging in no time flat.

The Deposit Man and the Last Great Gate of Mortality Act Two is underway. Larry has two full pages penciled and inked and up to ten pages layed out. Masekela has shown me the new cover and I should have it in my hands tomorrow when I pay him for it. The cover is itself a sequel to the cover to Act One, just the way I planned it. Each cover to the story arc sort of tells a story in itself which all climaxes in the third act. The pages that I mentioned that Larry is sketching out will be be finished by my book designer and editor (I guess) Oliver Simsonsen and will be inked by Mas and will be written in Spanish by yours truly, even though my speaking it doesn't go beyond the words 'adios' or 'puto to you'.

I saw Lord of the Rings: Return of the King last Sunday and words boundlessly escape me- it is probably one of the best movies ever made in cinema history. It is THAT magnificent and not one second of this three and a half hour opus is never wasted or waned. It is a Jolt Cola movie assault of the senses- you couldn't snooze your way through it even if you tried and those three plus hours fly by real quick and I swear for the first time in my life it was the first movie that I never wanted to see end. And I just got word through a DVD website that the expanded edition coming out next fall will have a possible extra 65 minutes attached to it. Fuck, I really need this puppy NOW!

For the duration of this entry, I'm just going to shoot the shit on my favorite vices that I've nurtured since my grade school, and of which has kept me occupied for a number of hours while I'm at the keyboard all day at work. Listening to old time radio shows on internet broadband has sort been growing on me lately. Like bobby socks and Pez candy dispensers, it's been coming back in style,.... well, at least for me anyway.

Ever since the fifth or sixth grade I've been fascinated with old radio shows like the Shadow, the Green Hornet, and Superman. In fact, much of the mythos that was invented for Superman such as kryptonite, the Daily Planet, Jimmy Olson and Perry White, and even the opening tag line of ' Look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, etc; etc was first introduced on the Superman radio show. It all started with some television ad for some record set that was ordered for me as a gift from a relative- and then later on, Kellog's Frosted Flakes once had a boxtop offer to order the first four volumes of the Superman radio show and my mom helped me to collect and save up for those. These collections were put out by Murray Hill Records if I recall and they also did collections of the Lone Ranger, the Green Hornet, Gangbusters, Sherlock Holmes, The Shadow (I had three collections of these, including one that 17 LPs in it and it's one of 5000 ever produced) if I remember. I still have these LPs at my house- I think they were some of the few things I escaped with from New Jersey, but sadly now, I don't own a turntable to play them on - but now with the graceful technology being what it is today- they have all been proudly remastered on CD and digital cassettes made possible by a company called Radiospirits.

Now - I have tons of Superman radio shows, more than I can count with 4 collections - some of the episodes even guest starred Batman & Robin and a new one has just been released which I aim to get sometime soon. These Radiospirits guys do a impeccable job with these collections- you sometimes just want to buy the entire catalog all at once. You can hear some samples of these episodes on a internet web radio show called 'When Radio Was' hosted by Stan Freberg, ( http://www.mediabay.com/stations/otr.asp ) who gives a little background information on each show, who starred in them, the original airdate and sometimes a trivia pop quiz. Now I understand that the show is now syndicated in to a few radio stations across the country. Here in LA, the show airs on KSUR which is 1270 on the AM Dial at 8:00 o'clock PM . In addition to these timeless jaunts in the past- there are new shows being created such as a radio version of 'The Twilight Zone' hosted by Stacy Keach Jr (Sundays at 8:00 PM, same station) and Tales of Imagination which is broadcast weeknights at 10 PM.

http://www.brandoclassicotr.com is another internet outlet that broadcasts old time radio 24 hours a day , seven days a week. You get to hear some obscure things that you don't get to hear very often these days such as the 1970's version of the CBS Mystery Theatre that was hosted by E.G. Robinson which was something I used to listen to a lot when I was I was kid. Heck, I still have vivid memories of updated shows that used synthesizers and other little wicked electronic doodads in a sci-fi show called 'Alien Worlds' and a five minute daily strip of the Marvel comic book, The Fantastic Four. Also on Brando (that is, if you can make it through the Christian book store dot com and the fornicationg Bible Challenge ads) , you can hear foreign radio braodcasts of the UK's Spycatcher (where every Nazi spy captured is guaranteed to go before a firing squad) and the BBC version of Sherlock Holmes.
Oh yeah, before I forget, every Saturday they air NPR's version of Star Wars and a little oddity of Rod Serling's the Zero Hour that he created before he created Twilight Zone and Night Gallery.

Next week will be the final post of the year. It's not like me, being the total zionist atheist to ever walk the face of the earth to wish good tidings. But whatever the fuck you're doing on the morning of the 25th, have fun doing it.
