Sparky: I'll take Rove Rage for a thousand Alex

Rove failed to tell grand jury information
A discrepancy between the grand jury testimony of Karl Rove and Time Magazine reporter Matthew Cooper is the reason Rove will testify again.

Newsweek reports investigators have found an e-mail confirming a meeting between Cooper and Rove, President Bush's top political adviser.

Rove failed to disclose the meeting both during a 2003 FBI interview and during his first appearance before a federal grand jury investigating the leak to the press of the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame.

Rove will testify before the grand jury for a fourth time this week.

Cooper told the grand jury Rove disclosed the name of Plame and that she was the wife of former ambassador Joe Wilson -- who had recently written an op-ed in the New York Times challenging the White House claim that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Niger to make nuclear weapons.

The National Journal reported Friday Rove assured President Bush two years ago he did not leak the Plame's name.

Chicago Sun-Times: JOHN SOLOMON: Rove told Bush he didn't out covert CIA agent, sources say

WASHINGTON -- White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove told President Bush and others that he never engaged in an effort to disclose a CIA operative's identity to discredit her husband's criticism of the administration's Iraq policy, according to people with knowledge of Rove's account in the investigation.

They said Rove's denial to Bush occurred in fall 2003, a few months after media reports revealed that former Ambassador Joseph Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, worked as a covert CIA operative.

Those with knowledge of evidence gathered in the criminal investigation spoke on condition of anonymity because of grand-jury secrecy.

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is wrapping up an investigation into whether Rove; Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, or other White House aides divulged Plame's identity in violation of federal law.

The probe also is examining whether Bush aides mishandled classified information, made false statements or obstructed justice.

Saturday, the New York Times and the Washington Post reported that Fitzgerald will meet Tuesday with freed Times reporter Judith Miller, who has compiled notes on a conversation she had with Libby. The conversation of June 25, 2003, is in addition to two others previously disclosed.

Rove is to testify before the grand jury for a fourth time -- without assurance he will avoid indictment.

The discussion with Bush did not get into specifics concerning Rove's contacts with Time magazine's Matthew Cooper and Chicago Sun-Times syndicated columnist Robert Novak, who wrote stories identifying Plame, the people familiar with Rove's account said.

newsKerala.com Mayank Chhaya: The US president as an instrument of god's will
“The deconstruction of President George W. Bush has been dizzyingly rapid in recent weeks. He would have been a tragic figure were he not so powerful.

There is now proof, if proof was ever needed, that Bush does everything under direct and explicit instruction from god. Going by that proof it is also quite clear that god is a micromanager whose sole task is to manage the US president.

The revelations by Palestinian negotiator Nabil Shaath on a BBC TV series about what Bush had said during the Israeli-Palestinian summit in June 2003 at Sharm al-Sheikh would have been discommoding had they not been in line with what one has come to expect of the world's most powerful man.

At a philosophical level one can understand that god, the universe's most powerful figure, would want to deal with the most powerful figure of an unspeakably small part of a mediocre galaxy. What is not understandable is that god would be so detailed and so explicit. ...”
