A DEPOSIT MAN DEVELOPMENT, or a more apt title being HOW WAS YOUR WEEKEND August 11, 2003
Last week I was crossing fingers and hinting at what I hoped to be a terrific collaboration to schism forth to fruition. Well I'm pleased to announce that I've made some headway in making it happen.
Last Friday night I set up a meeting with a potential cover artist for my new Deposit Man book, The Deposit Man & the Last Great Gate of Mortality or The Deposit Man Metaphysical Mystery Magazine- I don't know, I haven't fully decided yet, as I await for Mr. Sinder to come back from Japan so we can pick the logo that will suit the cover the best. So this talented artist and I met at a Carl's Jr not too far from Earth 2, where we originally set up the meet, but they closed early that night.
The new cover artist's name is Masekela Polee, and I hope this cover he's doing for me will get him some notice from some major leaguers. I found him on a Metro Rapid bus showing off to some people a 96 page graphic novel that he wrote and drew of which he went to get binded at Kinko's. I thought it was remarkable (even though the name of it escapes me at the moment) that a guy would sit down and write and draw a entire graphic novel all by himself as a portfolio piece to show around. The only thing is, now he's rather apprehensive about showing it to people after he got turned down by Oni Press- of which I find baffling, because it's similiar to the material of what Oni did when they published a four issue mini-series called Shot Callerz .
I explained to MAS- (that what he signs his work as) the cover concept of how I would like it to be inbetween mouthfuls of a Western Bacon Cheeseburger and a salad with Ranch on the side and gulpfuls of Squirt soda ( I was having a Wilson Fisk zen moment) and MAS, in a matter of minutes had a basic sketch of what I was seeing in my head as if he was seeing it himself. MAS was intrigued by my idea of all three covers in this mini-series to be somewhat connected as if you were viewing a relic of a moving painting on that old Rod Serling show, Night Gallery. So with an advance, he got to work on it over the weekend. I gave him towards the end of September to get to me and the donation of the rest of the amount.
I got a call this morning at work from MAS-
He's says he'll have it to me by the end of this week. My ears must have been playing tricks on me.
Yep, it's nearly done.
Goddamn, I love dedication.
